KES 5–8 million puts you into the premium import band — this is where the Lexus NX, Lexus RX, Porsche Macan, BMW X3, and top-trim Toyota Alphard Hybrid live. Most units in this range are 2020–2024 models with under 40,000 km, often with panoramic roofs, adaptive cruise, and premium interiors.
At this level KRA's CRSP valuation matters more than your auction price — a well-bought unit can still carry duty assessed on a much higher retail value. Hybrids and PHEVs have generally attracted a lower excise band than the petrol equivalent. Get the duty quote before you bid.

Common Questions
KSh 5M – 8M — FAQ
What is the best car to buy for KES 5–8 million?
For a luxury SUV, the Lexus RX, Porsche Macan and Mercedes GLC lead this band. For a family vehicle, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the Alphard are the strongest. Choose by use: comfort and resale favour the Lexus and Toyota, performance favours the Porsche.
What is the best luxury SUV to import for KES 5–8 million?
The Lexus RX (2020–2022) at ~KES 5.5–7.5M CIF leads for reliability and resale. Lexus NX and Porsche Macan are strong alternatives. For 7 seats, the Toyota Alphard Hybrid Executive Lounge or Vellfire ZG lands well in this band.
Can I import a Porsche Macan for under KES 8 million?
Yes. A 2017–2019 Porsche Macan in Turbo or GTS spec sits in the KES 4–7M CIF range. KRA duty is assessed on KRA's CRSP for the model and year, not on CIF, and is quoted per vehicle. See our Porsche Macan guide for current inventory.
Which hybrid SUVs are best in the KES 5–8M budget?
The Lexus RX 450h and Toyota Harrier Hybrid Z Leather Package are top picks. Both offer 15–20 km/L real-world in Kenyan conditions with proven battery longevity. The Lexus NX 300h and Toyota Alphard Hybrid Executive Lounge also fit this band.
How is duty worked out on a KES 6 million CIF luxury SUV?
On KRA's CRSP for that model and year, not on the KES 6M. Large-engine petrol SUVs sit in the highest excise band; hybrids have generally sat lower. Because the gap between CRSP and CIF is widest on luxury models, the only reliable figure is a per-vehicle quote, which every unit gets before you commit.
